Management Group Biographies
Daniel McGowan is a Consultant Clinical Scientist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT. He is Head of Research and Education within the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering and a Medical Physics Expert and Radioactive Waste Adviser to the Trust. He undertakes research within the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford particularly around clinical studies involving novel PET imaging. He supervises PhD students at Oxford and Cardiff Universities.
Vicki Parkin has been working as the South West nuclear account manager with Curium (formerly Mallinckrodt) since 2009. Prior to this she was the lead Radiographer in Nuclear medicine at the Bristol Royal infirmary. During the 23 years Vicki worked for the NHS, she worked on many special interest groups and committees. Most notable was the time she spent representing Radiographers and technologists on BNMS council. Her key achievement was being instrumental in the issue of the guidelines for non-medical technical reporting in nuclear medicine.
Shaunak Navalkissoor is a consultant nuclear medicine physician, working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He was appointed in 2010. His special interests include radionuclide therapy and oncological imaging . Shaunak has a particular interest in imaging and therapy of neuroendocrine tumours in which he has been involved in several clinical trials and peer reviewed publications. He is actively involved in the MSc Nuclear Medicine Course (King’s College London) as a clinical module lead.
Amy Eccles is a Consultant Radiologist based in the Nuclear Medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Her specialist interests include conventional radionuclide and hybrid imaging (SPECT and PET/CT). Amy is the Educational Lead in the Nuclear Medicine Department at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ and is a member of the ESMIT working group. She is also actively involved in the MSc Nuclear Medicine Course (King’s College London) as a personal tutor.
Chen Sheng Low is a final year radiology trainee within the Birmingham training scheme. He previously completed his nuclear medicine training in Birmingham and has a CCT in Nuclear Medicine from 2012. He has also completed the MSc in Nuclear Medicine. Chen is currently doing a part-time MD research in nuclear medicine with the University of Warwick.
Conor Ferris graduated from Durham University (Physics MSci ) before teaching science, gaining a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. He returned to study, obtaining an MSc in Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering from the University of Sheffield. He initial trained as a clinical scientist in London before moving to Oxford to complete his higher training before working there. He currently works in Belfast as the Principle Clinical Scientist in Radioisotopes at the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre. While based in Belfast his work takes him to hospitals across Northern Ireland. Conor is interested in both diagnostic and therapy applications as well as involved in staff education and training. He was a member of the IPEM NMSIG (2012-2016), chairing the SIG from 2014-2016. He is currently a member of the British Standards Institute expert panel on “Radiation protection and measurement”
André Nunes has worked in Nuclear Medicine since 2004 and has a very wide range of experience in all aspects of service provision, operationally and managerially. He’s been in the UK since 2008, having been Deputy Lead in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT and Lead in Imaging Research in three different departments. He takes a leading role in the development of guidelines, quality standards for the provision of the service and education of the workforce within the field of nuclear medicine. Andre lectures Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT at KCL, City University and Portsmouth University. He is part of the BIR Nuclear Medicine special interest group, as well as the BNMS Radiographers, Technologists and Nurses committee and the BNMS Education committee and the IPEM Nuclear Medicine special interest groups.
