In Memory of Charles Albert Frederick Joslin, MB, BS, FRCR, DMRT, MIERE, CEng. (1928 – 2025)

This obituary honours Charles Albert Frederick Joslin (1928–2025), a pioneering clinician and former President of the British Institute of Radiology, whose rare combination of engineering and medical expertise helped shape modern brachytherapy and advance cancer care nationally and internationally. Over a distinguished career at Charing Cross, Velindre Hospital, and Leeds, he became a leading figure in high-activity afterloading radiotherapy, a dedicated teacher and mentor, and a key contributor to national cancer initiatives, including the UK breast screening programme.

Recognising Excellence: BIR/Bayer Make it Better Service Award and BIR George du Boulay Priming Awards Presented

The British Institute of Radiology Recognises Professor Ferdia Gallagher with 2025 Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Award

Professor Ferdia Gallagher has been honoured with the British Institute of Radiology’s 2025 Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Award, presented at the BIR Annual Congress in London. Prof Gallagher, who leads the Clinical Molecular Imaging Group at the University of Cambridge, was recognised for pioneering non-invasive imaging methods that assess tissue metabolism to improve cancer detection, disease stratification, and treatment response monitoring.
