Who can become a member?

The British Institute of Radiology is an international membership organisation for everyone working in radiology, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences. So, as long as you are interested in this area, you are welcome to join, whatever your profession.

I am retiring, but still want to stay in touch. Do I have to pay the full fee?

We have a discounted retired membership plan at a cost of £30 per annum for fully retired members.

How do I become a member?

The quickest and easiest way is to join online. Simply click here and follow the instructions online. Alternatively, please give us a call on 020 3668 2220 and we will be happy to help you.

How do I log in to MyBIR?

To log in simply click here, enter the email address used to join/register and then enter your password.

Can I change my password?

Yes, login to your MyBIR portal and click the 'Reset Password' tab in your profile. 

I have a voucher for reviewing a manuscript submitted to a BIR journal. Can I use this against the cost of membership?

Yes. Please call us on 020 3668 2220 and have the voucher number ready. 

Who is student membership for?

Full-time students including postgraduate MSc and Phd students based in the UK and Ireland are eligible for student membership up to the end-date of their course.

I’m a Trainee. What membership am I eligible for?

Trainees on work-based training schemes can apply for Plan 2 membership for the duration of their training and upon qualification your subscription may be upgraded depending on any changes to your professional status.

I have finished my undergraduate/postgraduate course. How do I amend my membership grade?

At renewal time, if you have provided us with your correct course end date already, you will automatically be upgraded to the appropriate membership plan. Please ensure we have the correct dates of your course to ensure this is done at the correct time or email us at membership@bir.org.uk or call us on 020 3668 2220. 

 How can I pay for my membership?

Payments are made by direct debit. If you are unable to pay by direct debit, please call us to discuss other payment options on 020 3668 2220.

How do I get a receipt for my membership payment?

Receipts can be obtained through your MyBIR portal. Simply log in and click on 'My Transactions' option in your profile.

Will I be informed when my membership is coming to an end?

We will send you reminders as the end of your subscription approaches.

How do I cancel my membership?

If you have paid for your membership using a credit or debit card, simply inform us at membership@bir.org.uk that you would like to cancel. If you have paid by direct debit, please contact us at the above email address or call on 020 3668 2220, so that we can put a stop on the bank instruction.

How much is the membership if I start halfway through the year?

You can join at any time. Your annual membership will start the moment we have accepted your application or received your payment.

I have finished my training/studying. How do I amend my membership grade?

EVENTS

I want to attend an event. Do I have to join as a member?

Our events are open to members and non-members however our members enjoy savings of up to 45% off.  To book an event as a non-member, you will still be required to register.

What happens if I book onto the wrong event?

We provide a 24 hour cooling off period for bookings, if you cancel within this time you will receive a full refund. For cancellations after the 24 hour period, please see below.

Can I obtain a refund for my booking?

Up to two weeks  before the event

No refunds can be issued. However, transfer of registration fee to a single alternative eligible event* within 12 months of the cancellation can be arranged. (*Subject to availability. The registration fee for the new event must be of equal or higher value)

Less than two weeks before the event

No refunds or transfers can be made at this point

Are my payments to the BIR secure?

How will I receive a receipt and confirmation when I book an event?

Receipts can be obtained through your MyBIR portal. Simply log in and click on 'My Transactions' option in your profile. You will receive an automated email confirming your booking.

I have a voucher for reviewing a manuscript submitted to a BIR journal. Can I use this against the cost of an event?

Yes. Please call us on 020 3668 2220 and have the voucher number ready.

Can you reserve a space for me and I will pay on arrival?

Regrettably, we cannot reserve/book spaces without taking a payment.

Please note we do not accept payments for event registrations via invoices. For alternative payment methods, please call the Events Team on 020 3668 2228. 

I’ve been on a BIR event. How and when will I get my CPD points?

We will issue a certificate of attendance to each delegate who participates in one of our educational activities. All events will be RCR accredited, where appropriate. After attending the event, you will receive a post-event email where you will be asked to complete the feedback survey. Once completed, your certificate can be found in your MyBIR portal under 'Education' > 'My Events'.

I am a BIR member, how do I access BJR?

To get access to BJR simply log in to your MyBIR portal. In your portal click on 'Journals' at the top of the screen. This will open another window to the journal webpages.

How do I redeem a BIR journal reviewer voucher for a book?

When a reviewer reviews an article for any of the BIR journals, they can redeem a voucher. You can use one voucher per book and you will need to pay for postage and handling. Send your order and payment details to book.sales@bir.org.uk with your voucher details. BIR reviewer vouchers can also be used for events or membership.
