Revd Dr Mike Kirby inaugurated as BIR President 2026-2028

An experienced radiotherapy physicist and long-standing BIR member, Revd Dr Mike Kirby brings extensive expertise in radiotherapy, research, education and multidisciplinary collaboration to the role. He succeeds Dr Nick Screaton, whom the BIR thanks for his dedication and contribution during his two year presidency.

GE HealthCare and the BIR Collaborate to Expand AI fluency through HelloAI initiative

The BIR is pleased to announce a new collaboration with GE HealthCare, giving the BIR community free access to more than 20 hours of AI education through the HelloAI initiative. The resources are designed to help healthcare professionals build AI fluency and support the safe, responsible adoption of AI in clinical practice.

British Institute of Radiology signs collaboration agreement with International Atomic Energy Agency

This new three-year collaboration agreement will strengthen international cooperation in radiology, nuclear medicine, medical physics and radiation oncology. The partnership will support education, training, research, quality management and knowledge sharing, with a particular focus on building capacity in low and middle-income countries and supporting the IAEA’s Rays of Hope initiative to expand access to high-quality cancer care worldwide.

Ultrasound professionals launch manifesto to reduce patient waiting times for diagnosis and treatment

AXREM, the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS), the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), and the Society of Radiographers (SoR) have formed a collaborative working group representing clinical, scientific, educational and industry expertise. This manifesto sets out shared priorities, identifies barriers to safe and sustainable ultrasound delivery, and defines coordinated actions needed to ensure high‑quality, equitable ultrasound services—now and for the future.

Claire joins the BIR from the Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod), where she has been Director of Membership and Events – and led strategic planning, member engagement, and the delivery of scientific events.
