Andrew Blakeman read Economics at the LSE and trained as a chartered accountant at Deloitte. He spent most of his career at BP, where his roles included CFO of BP Shipping and CFO of BP’s UK petrol station chain. While at BP, he studied at London Business School, where he now teaches finance part-time. In 2019, he joined STRYDE, a company that makes seismic imaging technology, and in 2024, he co-led its management buy-out. He is now STRYDE’s chairman. He also serves as a non-executive director of two oil companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Previously, he was a non-executive director in the NHS for 15 years, with NHS Blood & Transplant and Milton Keynes University Hospital.
In 2023, Andrew was treated for throat cancer with surgery and subsequent radiotherapy, from which he has made an excellent recovery. His personal experience with the life-prolonging power of radiotherapy, combined with a lifelong fascination with science and medicine, attracted him to the BIR. He is hoping to contribute broadly to the BIR's goals—and to make finance simple and understandable.
