Warm welcome to new President

On 27 September 2012, Professor Andrew Jones was inaugurated as our new President of Council.

Andrew JonesAndrew Jones is a consultant clinical scientist within Christie Medical Physics and Engineering at The Christie, Manchester and is group leader for non-ionising imaging. He has been a member of the BIR since 1983 and has served three terms on the Council.

Speaking of his new role as the 80th President, Professor Jones said, “I am very honoured and excited to take on this role at the BIR. We have a great team of staff, committee members and trustees who are focused on delivering our strategy and I will particularly strive to continue to modernise and enhance the reputation of the Institute.

He continues “I am particularly committed to collaborating wherever possible with the sister organisations, utilising the BIR’s multi-disciplinary position, one of our key strengths, to our mutual benefit.”

He takes over the role from Dr Stephen Davies who has held the role for the past two years. At an emotional ceremony to mark his inauguration, Dr Davies spoke movingly of his term in office as he handed over the reigns to Professor Jones. He spoke of the great opportunity the BIR now has to reach out to the next generation across the UK and to rekindle our mission  “a world in which the potential of imaging science and radiation technology to prevent, detect and combat disease is fully realized.”

Jacqueline Fowler, Chief Executive of the BIR said “I would like to thank Stephen for his hard work and dedication over the last two years. We greatly look forward to working with Professor Jones to deliver our new strategy which promises innovation and new perspectives, whilst retaining the values and gravitas of this historic organisation.”
