Wanted! Can you help us reach out to schools and the public?

As part of our plans to raise the profile of the BIR, we are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to help us with our public engagement.

The BIR has recently appointed a Vice-President for External Affairs and, as part of its new External Affairs Strategy, wishes to enhance its public engagement. We are looking for a trainee member to act as an Outreach Co-ordinator to work closely with the Vice-President for External Affairs and the BIR Communications Manager to:

• Develop and deliver an outreach plan, collaborating closely with the BIR Trainees Committee
• Cultivate a group of members willing to help plan and execute outreach activities such as running demonstrations at the Big Bang Fair, or organising museum-based exhibitions
• Collaborate with sister organisations to maximise the effectiveness of our efforts
• Develop the resources available for outreach activities

The successful applicant would have a seat on the newly formed External Affairs Committee and would play a vital part in enhancing the role and profile of the BIR within the wider healthcare and public environment.

This is a voluntary role for three years and would require attendance at three External Affairs Committee meetings per year. We welcome trainee applicants from all disciplines. The only essential criteria are enthusiasm for one’s subject, a passion for making a difference and a flair for networking. We welcome applications from members and non-members although we would require the successful applicant to apply for membership to the BIR before taking up the post.
