The award presented by BIR President, Dr Nick Screaton on Thursday 20 November at the BIR Annual Congress in London was accompanied by a talk entitled, “Blue Sky or Storm Clouds: transforming the "traditional" to embrace the future”.
Professor Louise Rainford, Associate Dean Radiography, School of Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland, is a leading figure in medical imaging, with extensive experience in clinical radiography and academic leadership. Prof Rainford has served on several national committees, her passion for the profession is reflected in her active role in European and international Radiography collaborations.
Professor Rainford said: “I am deeply honoured to be the 2025 recipient of the BIR/DeepHealth Mayneord Lecture Award. I am delighted that my professional efforts have been recognised through nomination for this prestigious award. As a radiographer I really appreciate that my profession is acknowledged as having an essential part in how medical imaging professionals shape future roles to enhance patient diagnosis and care. My presentation highlights the need to be creative when considering future roles and the challenges associated with supporting and retaining medical imaging researchers who have a strong Artificial Intelligence knowledge base.”
