The award presented by BIR President, Dr Nick Screaton on Wednesday 19 November at the BIR Annual Congress in London was accompanied by a talk entitled, “Translating new imaging technologies into patient care.”
Professor Gallagher said: “It is a great honour to receive the BIR Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Award, and it has been a great privilege to have worked with so many talented researchers in Cambridge for many years. Our team has developed new imaging methods that allow non-invasive assessment of tissue metabolism, which can be used to stratify disease and detect early and successful response to treatments. We hope that these will be used in the future to improve patient outcome, particularly in cancer."
Professor Ferdia Gallagher is Head of Department and leads the Clinical Molecular Imaging Group in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge. His multidisciplinary group develops novel imaging tools for detecting cancer earlier, improving tumour stratification, and for early detection of successful response to cancer treatments.
