Christina Malamateniou is a diagnostic MRI radiographer and academic scholar for the last 25 years. An associate professor at City St George's, she is considered world expert in the field of AI and healthcare equity. She is an enthusiastic educator and passionate researcher, working not only for quality of education and research, but also for quality of culture amongst teams: for equity, inclusion and diverse representation.
Twenty years ago, she was awarded the BIR MRI clinical prize and Leonard Levy memorial prize for her UKRC presentation, which is how her association with the organisation started. The multidisciplinary ethos of the BIR is what she finds resonates most with her professional philosophy and personal values. During the last 4 years as BIR AI SIG member, Christina has enjoyed working with kind, considerate people and delivering scientific conference sessions with impact, while promoting educational and research partnerships within and outside the BIR. She also enjoyed co-leading the special BJR issue on “Empowering women in medical imaging”, which highlighted the need for equitable leadership opportunities in healthcare and academia.
