Solihull chooses digital X-ray system from Philips

29 July 2019

Philips UKI recently supplied its latest digital X-ray equipment, a DigitalDiagnost C90, to Solihull Hospital, part of University Hospitals NHS  Foundation Trust, Birmingham which was selected for its intuitive workflow.

Users can comfortably see more patients per day, and patient waiting times can also be shortened by decreasing time-to-diagnosis with innovative tools that help drive workflow efficiency.

Louise Small, Consultant Radiographer explains,“One of the reasons for choosing this system was because it offers bone suppression software when interpreting chest X-ray exams,   which detects and gives clarification of potential pulmonary nodules.

It comes with Philips UNIQUE 2, which improves image quality with more homogeneous black backgrounds, reduces noise and provides automatic enhancement of small details.   In addition, Philips’ bone suppression helps  remove bone structures from chest images for an unobstructed view of soft tissue, which can improve actionable nodule detection without the need to expose the patient to additional X-ray dose.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust runs the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham, Birmingham Chest Clinic, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and various community services across the region.  In terms of plain film imaging, it performs approximately in excess of 500,000 plain film examinations annually.
