Investment in countries that do not uphold human rights
In view of Russia’s activities in Ukraine, the BIR has reviewed its ethical investment policy and instructed its investment fund managers to ensure we do not have any investments in Russian or Belarusian businesses.
We have also instructed them to review our portfolio to ensure we are not investing in any country that does not uphold human rights at home or in their dealings with other countries.
We draw a distinction between oppressive regimes and the healthcare professionals who operate in them. We continue to directly support healthcare colleagues around the world, as individuals or through their professional societies, in their efforts to diagnose, treat, and care for patients and public health. In some cases these professionals are working in difficult circumstances and they deserve our support. This does not imply endorsement or support of any government or political entity.
