
Founded in 1984 in memory of Professor W V Mayneord CBE FRS, Past President and Honorary Member of the BIR. The lecture is given at the BIR Annual Congress.
It is an annual award made to an individual or a group of collaborators in recognition of recent or current contributions in the wide and expanding field of radiology. Nominations may also be accepted from individuals in other areas of healthcare or management whose innovative research or work has a relevance or interest to those working in the fields of radiology, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences.
From 2022 this prize is being generously sponsored by Deep Health (formerly Aidence). The sponsoring company presents a plaque to the recipient after the lecture has been given.
The award is in the form of sponsorship to attend the event, a monetary award of £1,000 and a celebration trophy.
BIR/Deep Health Mayneord Award 2025
Professor Louise Rainford, Associate Dean Radiography, School of Medicine, University College Dublin, recieved the BIR/Deep Health Mayneord Memorial Award for her lecture titled lecture entitled “Blue Sky or Storm Clouds: transforming the "traditional" to embrace the future”.
Louise said: “I am deeply honoured to be the 2025 recipient of the BIR/DeepHealth Mayneord Lecture Award. I am delighted that my professional efforts have been recognised through nomination for this prestigious award. As a radiographer I really appreciate that my profession is acknowledged as having an essential part in how medical imaging professionals shape future roles to enhance patient diagnosis and care. My presentation highlights the need to be creative when considering future roles and the challenges associated with supporting and retaining medical imaging researchers who have a strong Artificial Intelligence knowledge base.”
