Established in 1997 in honour of Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and his pioneering work in computed tomography, this lecture was initially endowed by Dr Marion Frank OBE, and subsequently funded by a bequest from Sir Godfrey Hounsfield. Nominations can be for a BIR Member of any age and discipline and the lecture carries a stipend of £1,000. The subject of the lecture should be an account of a major recent advance in radiology and its allied sciences and it is usually given at the BIR's Annual Congress.

Professor Adrian Brady was the recipient of the BIR Godfrey Hounsfield Memorial Award at the BIR Annual Congress on 2 November which was presented (by BIR President Professor Stephen Keevil) after his talk titled “The 21st century radiologist: Optimising relevance (while staying sane)’’.
