We say goodbye to seven trustees this Autumn: Charlie McCaffrey, Andrew Reilly, Niky Sykes, Rajat Chowdhury, Stuart Taylor, Liz Hunt and T C See.
We are indebted to the time and effort that our trustees put in to supporting us at the BIR, often on top of their own heavy workloads. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the trustees who are standing down from their official roles this year. We look forward to staying closely in touch as the hard work they have put in to developing and implementing our 5-year strategy begins to gather pace.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome four new trustees to the BIR: Linda de Cossart (Director of Medical Education, The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust), Peter Harrison (Managing Director, Siemens plc Healthcare Sector) Sabine Kleinert (Senior Executive Editor, The Lancet) and Leonie Paskin (Director of Engagement Strategy, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust). All four of our newcomers have interesting backgrounds and offer a wealth of experience in the commercial and public sector to support and guide us in the years ahead.
Linda de Cossart
Linda de Cossart is Director of Medical Education, Honorary Consultant Surgeon, The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Lecturer University of Liverpool.
Peter Harrison
Peter Harrison is Managing Director, Siemens plc Healthcare Sector. Having joined Siemens Business Services in 1996, Peter transferred to head Siemens Healthcare Services (SHS) Limited in 2002. SHS's scope of activities extended to Managed Equipment Services and Healthcare IT. In 2004 he assumed responsibility for the Imaging and Oncology solution business. He was chair of AXrEM, (the Association of Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy and Care), during 2007 and 2008, and continues to represent Siemens within this forum. He has served as the Industry Representative on the Clinical Radiology Faculty Board of the Royal College of Radiologists, and has also served as a Non Executive Board member of an NHS Mental Health Foundation Trust. Peter was also Director and Chair of Metier Healthcare from 2002 to 2008, (at which time Siemens divested its shareholding). Prior to joining Siemens Healthcare, Peter held General Management, Sales and Technical management positions within the business services and IT sectors, both within Siemens and Thorn EMI.
Sabine Kleinert
Sabine Kleinert studied Medicine in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the USA, and trained as a Paediatrician in the UK and Belgium. After further specialist training in Paediatric Cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and research training at the Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, USA, she joined The Lancet as a full-time Medical Editor in 1998. In March 2002, she became Executive Editor, and in July 2006 Senior Executive Editor. She joined the Committee on Publication Ethics in 1999, was elected to Council in 2002, and served as Vice-Chair from 2006 to March 2012. She is on the steering committee for the World Health Summits, held annually in Berlin, Germany, and was a member of the planning committee of the first and second World Conference on Research Integrity. She now co-chairs the planning committee for the 2013 World Conference on Research Integrity.
Leonie Paskin
Leonie is Director of Engagement Strategy at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, a part time role working with the widest community on projects which engage them with Trust affairs and ensuring that all voices are heard as well as exciting new developments for the future.
Leonie qualified as a radiographer in Manchester and spent the early years of her clinical career there.
Leonie worked at Guy’s Hospital where she enjoyed both CT and MRI but the former was her passion and she enjoyed teaching others both in a university and hospital setting. She began her clinical management at Guy’s and St Thomas which ended in 2010 having spent the previous five years as Clinical Director of Imaging and Medical Physics.
She was appointed as a Fellow of the Society and College of Radiographers in 2011.
