CEO reports on strategy for next three years

Jacqueline Fowler

During the autumn of 2013, the BIR undertook a mid-term review of our 2011–16 strategy.  We were delighted to have recorded so much activity against our objectives for the period, including:

  • Revision of our membership packages and closer engagement with our corporate partners
  • Re-launch of BJR, with a move to continuous publication and hybrid open access, BIR|Open
  • Launch of a new website with enhanced functionality
  • Introduction of special interest groups to support member specialties
  • Infrastructure developments such as revision of our governance structure and a move to new office accommodation on the outskirts of the City of London.

The review confirmed our five key themes and agreed priority developments for the three years to 31 March 2017, as follows:

  1. To increase membership numbers by seeking to provide benefits, particularly educational, that members want.
  2. To enhance our portfolio of educational meetings by developing a suite of accredited educational products that employ innovative methods of delivery.
  3. To consolidate publishing by developing our portfolio of publications, most notably by increasing the impact of BJR.
  4. To build external relations by developing our profile through products and events and by collaborating with other organisations.
  5. To improve our infrastructure by launching four new regional branches and developing a more streamlined member experience when using our online services.

We aim to invest approximately £500,000 over the next three years specifically in developing these themes for the benefit of our members.  We hope that you have already seen some positive changes and we look forward to introducing some exciting and innovative initiatives in the coming months and years.

If you like what you are seeing, please tell your colleagues and encourage them to join us!
