Professor Andy Beavis honoured by Science Council

Andy Beavis

We are proud to announce that Professor Andy Beavis, Chair of our Radiotherapy Physics Special Interest Group, has been named as one of 100 leading practising scientists by the Science Council.

To identify its list of 100 the Science Council organised a competition around 10 different ‘types’ of scientist roles. The list of 100 has 10 different examples of each of the 10 types and gives a broad picture of the many different ways people work with science, making valuable contributions across UK society and the economy.

Professor Beavis was recognised for combining his leadership and management role in service delivery with developing an entirely new way of using virtual simulation technology to enable therapy radiographer trainees to learn and practice their skills safely.

Speaking of the award, Professor Andrew Jones said “This accolade is much deserved, Andy is immensely talented and a much respected expert in his field and we are honoured that he devotes so much of his expertise to the work of the BIR.” Read more about the award to Professor Beavis
