APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR BIR/SIEMENS RESEARCH AWARD

Siemens are once more supporting a pump-priming research bursary, the BIR/Siemens Research Award, to provide support to researchers in the fields of radiology, radiotherapy, oncology, radiography or medical physics.

The BIR/Siemens Research Award will provide £1000 for initial financial support to enable researchers to develop proposals with the aim of attracting further funding from external sources.

The award is in memory of Sir James Mackenzie Davidson, a pioneer in British radiology.

Peter Harrison, Managing Director of Siemens plc (Healthcare Division), said “We are delighted to be collaborating with the BIR again in this annual award to help medical imaging researchers in the vital initial development stage of a research proposal”.

Dr David Wilson, President of the BIR, said “We are immensely grateful to Siemens for providing this funding to support researchers to get their research projects off the ground”.

Last year the award was won by Dr Karen Eley from Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, for her research project on "Black Bone" MRI and Craniosynostosis. The award will be formally presented at RSNA in December 2015.

To apply, participants must provide a 750 word outline of the intended research project and send to awards@bir.org.uk by 31 December 2015.

More details are available on the BIR website www.bir.org.uk
