BIR/Philips Student Bursary awarded to Chao Jin Ho

Chao Jin Ho, a medical student from Queen’s University,  was awarded the BIR/Philips Student Bursary at the BIR Annual Congress on 3 November 2016. The award provided £250 to allow Mr Jin Ho to attend ESTRO 35 in Turin earlier this year, where he presented his research work.  The award was presented by President of the BIR, Mr Andy Rogers, and Simon Bunce, Product Specialist,  Philips Healthcare.

The BIR/Philips Student Travel Bursary provides funding for  an elective study option or attendance at a relevant course or conference. This award is open to BIR student members including students of medicine,  radiography, physics and others, for example student nurses who have an interest in this field.

Chao Jin Ho  is passionate about cancer research which has been a great learning experience outside of his formal undergraduate curriculum. His abstract was based on six weeks of voluntary research work during the summer of 2014 under the assistance of Dr Suneil Jain, Dr Ciara Lyons and other researchers working in the Northern Ireland Cancer centre. His research work was accepted as an E-poster at the conference and taught him much about CT contouring, statistical analysis and abstract writing.

Andy Rogers  said “We would like to thank Philips Healthcare for providing the funding for this award, which allows students to broaden their experience and learn from other cultures. It is a delight to be able to encourage young researchers and I wish Chao Jin Ho every success with his future career.”

Applications are now invited for the next award. The closing date for applications is 31 March 2017.
