Applications invited for BIR Make it Better Award 2020

The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is pleased to announce that the BIR Make it Better Award is now open for entries.

This award is for the individual or group of people who have demonstrated the best improvement in an aspect of radiology or radiotherapy service delivery by making it more effective, or through improved patient experience. This might be an innovative design of a piece of kit or changes to a patient pathway that have improved patient comfort or made the pathway less invasive. For example, your innovation may have reduced delays or improved the environment for the patient.

Dr Jane Phillips-Hughes, President of the BIR, said “This award is now recognised as one of the most prestigious multi-disciplinary awards within the radiology and radiation oncology community. We are always impressed with the range of innovation and creativity in this sector and the passion and drive to improve services for patients is heart-warming.”

Previous winners include: An initiative to improve the access to breast screening service for people with learning disabilities; a new model of care using isotope treatments; the introduction of image-guided lung biopsies using an early discharge protocol; the world’s first minimally invasive autopsy service based on MRI for the fetal and neonatal age group; and improving the throughput of patients by developing a radiographer-led discharge plan.

The closing date for this award is 30 April 2020. The prize will be presented at the BIR Annual Congress, 5 & 6 November 2020.
