The New Technologies Prize is funded by reserves generously donated by the former Magnetic Resonance Radiologists Association (MRRA (UK)).
This prize is awarded for a novel technological development in imaging and its related sciences or for the clinical application of a new technology. Applications from all disciplines are eligible for consideration for the prize and are considered bi-annually.
Winner of the 2022 award
This was presented to Professor Ferdia Gallagher (Consultant Radiologist at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge) for the development of hyperpolarised carbon-13 MRI as a clinical tool.

The next award will be made in 2024
General criteria:
The Prize is awarded for a novel technological development in imaging and its related sciences or for the clinical application of a new technology. The new development can include work that has had a high impact on patient care. Applications from all disciplines are eligible for consideration for the Prize and are considered bi-annually.
- The winner is encouraged to submit an article on the relevant topic to BJR
- The prize is for £500 and is open to both BIR Members and non-members.
- Closing date for applications is 30 April 2023
The prize is a cheque for £500 and a certificate from the BIR. Presentation will be at the annual BIR's Annual Congress.
